Courtney has been lucky enough to have had the many different experience within the tourism and hospitality industry over the last five years. Her first internship was with Fleischman Gerber and Associates, a public relations and special events firm in Philadelphia, PA. There she was able to get her first real taste in event planning. During this internship she was able to assist with the prestigious Barrymore Awards at the Walnut Street Theater, multiple fundraisers with non-profit organizations, and community-based events around the city of Philadelphia.
Courtney completed her Junior Internship with J. Scott Catering, located in Malvern, Pennsylvania. J. Scott Catering is a full-service catering company that specializes in special events and corporate functions. They have been featured in numerous magazines, including Mainline Today for their outstanding service and quality food. Courtney was able to assist in over 25 special events during this internship, giving her a variety of different experiences.
Most notably, Courtney had held the position of Vice-President of Programming for Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority at Temple University for two years. Within this position Courtney has had the opportunity to plan numerous fundraisers, community service projects, and philanthropy events. Her biggest accomplishment has been planning and creating a male beauty pageant in Mitten Hall in October for Delta Phi Epsilon’s national philanthropy, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In 2011 she raised over $3,200 for the foundation and in 2012 she raised $9,400, over triple what she raised the year before. Being Vice-President of Programming for Delta Phi Epsilon has given Courtney the opportunity to not only be a leader but experience for her future career.
Courtney also had the opportunity to be apart of Temple University’s Greek Association as Greek Week Chair during her senior year. This gave her the opportunity to see the recreational aspect of event planning. Courtney was not only responsible for planning one event but numerous events between April 5th and April 12th for 1,100 collegiate Greeks. The events included a Greek beauty pageant, Greek Olympics, Phillies tailgate and game, two blood drives, Greek Sing, Family Feud, and a dodgeball tournament. The week was the most challenging experience Courtney has had so far but the experience she gained was worth the stress and loss of sleep. The week was an overall success and a perfect way to end her senior year at Temple University.
Courtney was fortunate enough to spend the summer interning at the famous Kleinfeld’s Bridal in New York City. Kleinfeld’s opened its doors to excited brides-to-be over 50 years ago in Brooklyn. In 2007 it moved its company to Manhattan and today it is an established bridal store with over 2,000 dresses in stock. It is also host to the hit television show “Say Yes to the Dress” on TLC. Courtney worked as a bridal consulting intern, helping brides find their perfect dress and giving them the memorable experience they have always imagined. Working at Kleinfeld’s taught her superior customer service skills and exceptional problem solving skills. The company prides itself on excellent customer attention and exceptional quality on the products and services they provide. Interning at Kleinfeld’s for the summer and living in New York City was a dream come true and Courtney feels blessed to have had such a wonderful, positive experience. She also could tell you every detail about all 2,000 wedding dresses!
Although she loved living in the Big Apple for the summer she was ready to come home to Philadelphia to finish her final semester at Temple University. As a last semester senior her final steps to graduation is to complete a full-time internship within the field of Tourism and Hospitality. After an extensive search and multiple interviews she accepted an internship with Stockton & Partners, a full service event planning and meeting management firm. She chose this internship as she has never interned for a corporate event planning firm and was eager to see a new side of the industry. She also loved the working environment of the office-three determined women led by President and founder Kate Stockton. She is excited to begin this new journey and see the corporate side of the event planning world.
Upon graduation in December 2013, Courtney accepted a position with the well-respected travel company, Apple Vacations, as a Destination Wedding Specialist.
